Resilience is a colouring book based on the artist’s paintings and drawings. My job was to convert the artist’s colour paintings to black and white designs that could be coloured.
Many of Traverse’s painting and drawings lend themselves easily to black and white, while some required extra work and touch-ups by hand in Photoshop.
My process started in Photoshop by using colour selections and curves to get the highest contrast image. I then used Illustrator’s image trace for cleaner lines. My final edits were back in Photoshop to adjust the areas where I disagreed with the computer and give the image back its human touch.
I was also pleased to convert the paintings for the first two colouring books in this series, Sacred Feminine and Ikwe.
